Our story

The teacher in the next room

I turned on the tablet for her and the computer for me, then went into the other room and connected from there. Same house, two separate screens.

“If it works for my child, why shouldn’t it help other children too?”

I am Gamze, also known as Teacher Dünya.

What parents usually want to know

What ages do you teach?

Roots & Talks teaches live Turkish lessons to children ages 4–17. Age shapes what lessons are about; where your child starts is set not by age but by the teacher getting to know them in the intro lesson.

How long are lessons?

One-to-one and group lessons last 25 minutes; group lessons bring 2 siblings together. The gift intro lesson is also 25 minutes.

Can I choose the teacher?

Yes. You can browse teacher profiles and choose a teacher for your child. If you are unsure, our education coordinator can help you choose and guide you through the process.

How long is the gift intro lesson? Do I need a call first?

The gift intro lesson lasts 25 minutes. A parent call is not required first; if you like, you can start with a free call of up to 15 minutes.

When will I see pricing?

The lowest price per lesson is $23 for one-to-one lessons and $14 per child for group lessons. The price depends on your family's total lessons in a 4-week period, and you see the terms before you make any purchase decision.

Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson?

Yes, from your dashboard. If you cancel more than 24 hours before the lesson, your lesson credit is added back. In the last 24 hours a lesson can’t be cancelled, but you can move it to another time up to 12 hr before it starts and keep your lesson credit. If you don’t move it and your child doesn’t attend, the lesson counts as used. If the teacher cancels, your lesson credit is always added back. Why 24 hours? Your teacher sets that time aside for your child; this notice lets the slot go to another child if needed.
