From school life to their own story
Turkish for schoolchildren
A school project, favorite book or event with friends can provide a starting point for Turkish. Understanding your child’s learning experience helps connect the subject with the language support they need.
School experience offers useful clues
Share which language your child reads and writes in and who they use Turkish with outside school. Their school grade is not, on its own, a measure of where to start in Turkish.
Describe a familiar subject in Turkish
Familiar content gives your child something to communicate using new language. Sample tasks can take different forms, with conversation, brief notes or pictures providing support.
- Summarize a school day through three events
- Explain how to play a game
- Prepare a short book recommendation
Make room in a busy week
Consider school, rest and other activities when reviewing the teacher’s available times. At home, a familiar routine can provide a conversation opportunity without preparing a new topic every day.
Questions on your mind
Should we mention Turkish lessons at school?
Yes. Describe the work they are familiar with and where they need support. The teacher can use this as part of the starting conversation.
Can we ask about support with schoolwork?
You can discuss the need and the relevant work with our education team. Clarify suitability for a particular school curriculum or assignment before making plans.
Which age page should I read?
The page closest to your child’s age offers examples of topics and participation. Read the learning profile guide alongside it when considering language experience.
