From a word to an idea

Turkish activities for children

An activity can do more than check a correct answer. Saying something about a chosen word, asking a question or building a small story gives Turkish another purpose.

Choose first, then describe

You can begin with one of the words on this page. Invite your child to recognize it, say where they might encounter it or connect it with something else they know.

  • Find a word and say it aloud
  • Use it in a short sentence
  • Ask someone a question using the word

Different ways to use the same activity

A child new to Turkish might point to a picture or choose between two options. A more comfortable speaker might add a detail, give a reason or bring two words into the same story.

Keep it brief and return to it

There is no need to finish every option in one sitting. Follow a word that interests your child, then return to it another day in a book or an everyday conversation.

Discover words together

Look at the picture and choose the Turkish word. Say it aloud together, then try it in a sentence of your own.

Questions on your mind

Are these activities a level test?

No. They are short opportunities to use Turkish together. A count of correct answers does not represent your child’s full experience with the language.

What if my child does not know a word?

Look at it together, model the word and use it again in another example. An unfamiliar word need not end the activity or turn it into pressure to perform.

Can we continue away from the screen?

Yes. Continue by drawing a word, finding an example at home or using it in a short story. The activity sheets offer another way to do this.
