Start with a shared idea
Schools and family communities
A family group or school community may want to make more room for Turkish. Clarifying who would take part and what you hope to do together provides a useful starting point for discussing possibilities.
Define the purpose first
Bringing families together around a story, offering children brief conversation opportunities and sharing ideas for home are different aims. Choose a clear starting purpose rather than expecting one gathering to do everything.
Make the activity idea concrete
A shared subject can offer different ways to participate across ages. Objects and stories can provide something to discuss without requiring families to share private information.
- Tell a short story about an object
- Explore a book together through different questions
- Share small ideas families use for Turkish at home
Before you talk with us
Summarize participants’ ages, approximate numbers, relationship with Turkish and possible times. Contact our education team to describe the idea and discuss which possibilities may be suitable.
Questions on your mind
How can we share an idea for a community?
Use our contact channels to reach the education team. Briefly describe who is in the group and the purpose of the activity you have in mind.
Can children of every age do the same activity?
Consider age and language experience together. A shared topic can have different tasks; regular group lessons, however, bring 2 siblings together.
Where could we begin with an activity?
Choose a story, word or shared question. The family guide and activity sheets offer examples to help turn an initial idea into something concrete.
